What is the TFCC?
The Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (TFCC) is a small but vital structure in your wrist, located near the pinky finger side. It acts like a cushion and stabilizer between the end of your ulna bone and the wrist bones.
The TFCC helps you:
Rotate your forearm (like turning a key)
Stabilize your wrist during lifting and gripping
Absorb impact and protect your wrist joint
When the TFCC is torn—from trauma, sports, or overuse—it can cause pain, clicking, weakness, and instability.
What is TFCC Repair?
TFCC Repair is a surgical procedure used to fix a complete or unstable tear of the TFCC. Instead of trimming damaged tissue (as in a debridement), the surgeon reattaches or stitches the torn ligament to restore full function and stability.
This is often recommended when the tear is on the outer edge of the TFCC, which has better blood supply and can heal with proper repair.
How is the Procedure Done?
Most TFCC repairs are done using minimally invasive wrist arthroscopy:
Tiny incisions are made in the wrist.
A small camera (arthroscope) and precision instruments are inserted.
The surgeon locates the tear and anchors it with sutures or tiny devices to encourage healing.
The wrist is closed and wrapped in a soft bandage or splint.
Why is the TFCC So Important?
Allows you to rotate and grip without pain
Keeps your wrist stable during motion
Helps prevent long-term joint damage
Essential for sports, work, and daily tasks
Injuries to the TFCC can limit hand function and reduce quality of life.
Advanced Technology & Modern Techniques
✅ Arthroscopic (keyhole) repair: Less trauma, smaller scars
✅ High-def imaging: Precise diagnosis and treatment
✅ Biocompatible suture anchors: Strong and safe healing
✅ Faster rehab: Shorter hospital stay, earlier return to activity
